Highmark retains Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission health ...

Highmark Inc. said today the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has renewed its contract, enabling Highmark to continue providing health benefits for one of its largest employer groups. The three-year contract covers about 7,000 turnpike employees, retirees and dependents, Highmark said.

?The turnpike evaluation team reviewed all their options and in the end chose to stay with Highmark, because we deliver valued and quality-focused benefits,? Deborah L. Rice, Highmark's executive vice president for health services, said in a news release. ?Even with many questions remaining around health care reform and a very challenging economy for many industries, the Turnpike decided to continue to provide its employees with quality benefits."

Highmark covers about one million people in central Pennsylvania, 4.1 million in Pennsylvania, and others in West Virginia and Delaware. About 4,000 of Highmark's 10,000 employees are based in the Harrisburg region. The turnpike commission has 2,100 employees, according to Highmark.?
